Maddie is in week 3 of rehabilitation. She continues to make great progress!
Her owners have done a fantastic job at home! Rehabilitation is not only about what we do in our clinic. Client compliance plays a huge roll in the progression and success of the rehab process.
At home, Maddie’s owners have been taking her on slow leash walks. It is easier for a dog to hold their leg up to walk faster. When a dog walks slower, they are more likely to use the leg that is healing. Maddie has also been getting warm compresses and massage. This helps keep her muscles stay loose so that we can continue to get better stretching with each rehab session. Maddie also works on exercises at home.
In the last photo you can see Maddie’s leg is tucked underneath her. She will not have to use that leg to force her weight up into a stand. When a patient does this, we have them stand back up and sit again. We use pieces of Lean Treats to motivate patients. They are rewarded when the exercise is done properly. Maddie is very smart! She figures things out in no time!
