AAHA Accreditation

What AAHA Means to Us: A Note from Dr. Tope

July 22 is AAHA Day. The American Animal Hospital as set aside this day as a way of celebrating accreditation and showcasing what AAHA means to our clinic, as well as our patients and pet families.

When Dr. Bushwack and I came to Anderson in 2002, we were determined to make ECAC an AAHA accredited practice within 5 years. I had worked at an AAHA practice in Pittsburgh, PA, and realized how much that meant to us as a work family and how much it meant to our pet families. We knew that accreditation would keep us up to date and hold us accountable in the day to day activities of a busy veterinary practice. In 2004, this vision was made a reality when we passed our first evaluation.

You see, AAHA accreditation is voluntary. AAHA sets the standard of excellence in veterinary medicine. The AAHA Standards of Accreditation are composed of 940 standards and 18 categories covering all areas of veterinary practice—from anesthesia and pain management to recordkeeping and client communication. This is what keeps us moving forward and holds us to industry standards that are relevant. We are never stagnant! This means that we have gone the distance to ensure that we are well educated, trained, and staffed to take care of your pets.

There are nearly 4,000 accredited veterinary practices in the AAHA community. While there are a lot of great practices in our geographical area, we are proud to be the only AAHA accredited practice in Anderson County, and one of only 9 practices in the Upstate of South Carolina.

We celebrated AAHA day by having some fun activities at ECAC, including some food for lunch, and giveaways! We had some fun activities that helped visitors get a glimpse into what we do, and how AAHA helps us to be our best!

You have our promise that we will never stop learning and adapting to best care for our patients and pet families.

With AAHA's help, we plan to continue to serve the pets of Anderson County and beyond for many more years!

Sincerely,

Dr. Rob Tope
